When mundanes wonder about gamer habits

Yeah.  This.  So much this.  I first noticed game streaming a few years ago and briefly wondered about it, thinking it perhaps a bit odd; I spend a lot of time watching others play now.  For all sorts of reasons.  One of my favorite ways to relax and recharge my mental batteries is watching pro Starcraft 2 players go at it.  I’ll never, ever, ever, never, ever, never, play Starcraft 2.  Not in a million years.  The time I dabbled with SC1 was enough; the game has moved into a realm where I have other things to do with my life.  But I’m quite content to watch pros mangle each other.  It’s a lot of fun to watch the game executed at a high level of competence.

Game streaming is just one more example of the beauty of the internet.  Do what you want, do what you love.  Nothing’s wrong with being a spectator; most of humanity, for most of humanity, has been exactly that.  Why should gaming in the early 21st century be any different?
